Baltimore Home Specs offers a variety of services in order to inspect your home completely from roof to foundation, including mold and radon inspections. MOLD INSPECTIONS Our inspectors are IESO certified!!! What is Mold? Molds are fungi. Tiny particles of mold are present in the indoor and outdoor air that we breathe. Under the right conditions mold spores can multiply- towards dangerous levels and thrive. In order to create a proper environment to grow, mold most importantly needs moisture. What type of problems are associated with Mold? Damage to the Home Mold can easily cause damage to your personal belongings, furniture, and other material goods in your home. Signs of mold usually mean that moisture is entering the home from somewhere and possibly causing serious damage to the structure of your home. Health Problems People are exposed to mold when they breathe spores, make contact with skin, or swallow it. Mold can seriously affect the health of those exposed to it. Common symptoms of mold exposure are: nasal/sinus congestion, cough, wheeze, sore throat, skin/eye irritation, and upper respiratory infections. Should I have a mold inspection? Yes! Mold problems are not always obvious to the untrained eye and left untreated mold can damage your home and seriously affect your family's health. Even small areas of mold can lead to serious problems later on. Mold can even be found in your duct work. Why take such a risk when the costs for a mold inspection are minimal? What is IESO? The Indoor Environmental Standards Organization (IESO) is a non-profit organization that works to provide indoor environmental quality standards. The IESO provides guidelines that are designed to address fundamental concerns relative to mold contamination issues. The IESO also offers training and certification programs to promote compliance to the established standards for indoor air quality. As IESO certified inspectors we offer a cost effective mold screen and have the ability to refer you to specialists if sampling reveals the need for additional investigation. Baltimore Home Specs LLC only uses accredited laboratories for sample analyses. RADON INSPECTIONS What is Radon? Radon is radioactive gas. It is a cancer causing gas that cannot be seen, smelled, or tasted. Radon is a gas occurring from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water. Why is Radon so dangerous? Radon particles become trapped in lungs damaging the tissue and eventually can cause lung cancer over time. The Surgeon General states radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US next to cigarette smoking. It is estimated that radon gas contributes to the death of over 20,000 people every year!!! It is the number one cause of lung cancer in non-smokers! Where is Radon Gas found? Radon gas can be found anywhere in any home. Radon gas is emitted from the earth and then trapped inside your home, where it can gather in dangerous levels. Should I have MY house tested for elevated levels of radon? Yes! Without question, Radon testing could be one of the most important things you do for your family's health.
